Investment Newspaper: A journey with no stop
In the battle
Born in a poor country side on Nhan Thanh, Yen Thanh, Nghe An, Phan Van Quy joined army late 1971. He was trained to be a truck driver and soon later made friend with the truck ZIN 157 on the Truong Son road path to pass dangerous part delivering goods to fellow soldiers; and on the way back transfer injured solders.
Together with many other fellow companions his back and forth journeys with goods and injured fellows between North and South could contribute big effort to the great victory in Spring of 1975.
In 1976, together with the national joy of the country reunification young solder Phan Van Quy had his own joy being granted an Army Hero at his 23 years old.
The truck Zin 157, which accompanied him over years is now exhibited at the Army Logistic Exhibition. It’s a kind of a reminder about the past sever war and at the same time it’s a proof of the Truong Son solders’ courage and asking him to live deserving the losses of fellow companions and people.
‘Storm’ hiding in the business battle
Finishing the violent battles Mr. Quy continued serving army for a while before entering new battle with no less violence, the economic business battle.
Started from the zero, he did not hesitate to learn and accumulate expertise, which together with the business senses made him successful. Today, he is the Chairman cum President of Pacific Group Corporation, the company with many big projects in various local provinces.
By 2008, Pacific Corporation had in hand number of dream projects from real estate to power, mining, banking and security businesses. At that time, banking and security were the ‘king’ business, like people say ‘chicken who gives gold eggs’. And at the time people believed things go good, he has shocking decision: deleting banking from the Company investment portfolio.
Reminiscing the date of this decision, he said, it was not easy at all, but when you carefully considered and decided you should do it. In fact, before ‘careful consideration’ his restructuring decision came out when he saw an economic forecast. It was in 2007, during the visit to see the children who were on study in the UK, he got the article of some European economists forecasting the global economic recession. He found the analysis reasonable, then decide to review his own business plans and decided. People who know him called his maneuver a spectacular and right timing storm hiding’. But he just calmly said ‘it’s just an own and people experience’
Not stopping there, he developed new business for the Company, investment in power and industry. By this time the share of these two new businesses becomes major and is determined a long term businesses of the Company.
Mr. Quy disclosed, the nation economy is facing lot of difficulties like a sick body, but it need to be restructured. It is like a total treatment, and people have to accept it even with big losses, then to focus in their own core businesses.
I understand this is the confidences of his passes.
A Non stop Journey
Looking towards the beloved hard land of home land and the Central region, Mr. Quy wished to contribute more to express his gratefulness. A Training Centre in Yen Thanh to help people working overseas; a water treatment plant for residents in Nhan Thanh village; Common houses to give shelter to people to survive the fury floods and other items. All are just not enough and are just a beginning.
His friends, accompanies and especially his old commander, General Dong Sy Nguyen encouraged him to offer himself be elected as a National Deputy. Realizing that this is a chance to speak out on behalf of people and business society at the larger forum and to have more chance to do for the home country, Mr. Quy run for election and was one of four self offered, elected to be Deputy of the 13 National Assembly.
More business and more responsibility, but he is very happy. He determined to do the best the obligation of the people representative. Being a member of Legal Committee of the National Assembly he spend time to study and gave precious comments to some Law Resolution during the last 2nd Session.
It’s not now people understand the power of the money. From the ancient time people have been aware how powerful the money is and how destructive it is. This is why people say ‘market is really a war battlefield’. It’s true that someone looses and someone gains in this battlefield and everyone try to seize more for his own benefit. In his philosophy, the Chairman does not think that the battlefield is ‘I survive, you die’. Businessmen must learn to share the responsibility, benefit and all will win.
The ‘win-win’ business philosophy sound very strange, but in fact it’s easy to understand and very specific according to Mr. Quy. Being a person who always first realizes the plan before making idea, I understand Quy’s today success originated from this business philosophy.
During the conversation with him, we got to understand that he is nurturing and silently realizing big business. Those are big projects, big deals, which he does not only by material resources, but also by heart and with commitment by blood signing, as once he did at is early 20 year old, when applying to go to the front. Remember that he is a man, who first does the job, then disclose I did not ask him about his new businesses, I just silently wish him to realize his dreams in his non-stop journey; and continue the proud army march of a hero.

1, How much and when is your first earning?
- It was in July 1978 when I was over-promoted from sergeant to lieutenant and received the first salary. It was 58.000 dong.
2, How was the business of your first Company?
- We did the transportation of gasoline. The company had not profits and it was dissolved.

- Be calm, think and have plan for the next job.

- A glance on the Company doings.

- Looking for my wife (smiling)

- I did not have a daughter in law before a son in law.

- I became a farther in law from early last December.
